Minimal Monday

Instead of a singular New Year’s resolution, many people choose a personal guiding word. This word names their intentions for the year in a holistic way. The word choices are endless, and as my birthday nears, I have decided that discipline will be my anchoring word for the next year of my life.

Discipline comes the closest to encompassing all of my goals and desires. I use discipline to follow through on healthy physical habits like diet and exercise. But just as importantly, I have to exercise discipline of the mind if I am to live the life I want to live. We get to choose the thoughts we think, and whether or not we give our power away, or give in to fear, and it requires discipline to keep our thoughts and minds serving us well. Most of the time, I know the right thing to do and the most functional, healthy thoughts to think. I just have to apply discipline to follow through on the best choices.

Do you have a word?
